Peugeot 308 GT & THP Test Drive Experience
Recently, two of our members went for Peugeot 308 Test Drive. Initially was supposed to be testing of the CKD models, but it might not satisfy our "legendary" GTi driver, megat206. So, we introduce him to the "beast", Peugeot 308 GT.
From the initial checking out, there isn't much difference in terms of looks of the engine, nothing much to impress him except for the "additional" features and looks. But once he gets to taste the "power" of the "beast", it's a whole lot different story... Even the sales advisor were surprised and quickly keep his handphone and get a hold of the seat. The atmosphere changes immediately the moment the awaken the "beast". The feeling inside the car at that moment was very hard to describe, the fear, the uncertainties, it's more scary than your usual Roller-Coaster ride, it's like entering a different world immediately. Suddenly, I have the feeling, I don't want to be in it, I want to get out, but I have a duty to finish, that is to capture this magnificent video... (Ok, I was joking about my duty, hehe).
In just a short drive, he managed to understands very much about the car, handle it very well and the confidence. He shifts very sharply and at very exact RPM; When I tested it last time, there was REV limiter, but he shifts at the exact RPM without triggering the REV limiter.
For this, I would like to say, finally, the LION has "finally" come ALIVE. Finally, someone has utilized it's potential and awaken it.
The second test drive was the THP unit, automatic transmission. The test driver was intermilan, a very experienced and senior Peugeot owner, especially with the automatic transmission. He's one of the perfect person for the job, hehe.
From the videos, you can see and experience the tremendous torque from the car, and also the features/functions of the "auto-adaptive" gearbox. You will notice the gearbox acts like a manual, it adapts to the driver's behaviour and changes the gears from the "logic" it has determined from the driver's driving behaviour; such scenario can be seen in the video when you see intermilan "wanted" to downshift manually, but the "auto-adaptive" gearbox downshift for him first, much faster than him; thus, this gives immediate response of power delivery.
Pictures worth a thousand words, action speaks louder than words; So, the video below is best to show you the details:
(As usual, in the videos, you can't "feel" the feeling inside the car and the speed, so you might not feel the thrill, but trust me, if you're in the car megat206 drives, you will wished you weren't inside; as I said, the moment he brings the "beast" alive, the whole atmosphere changes totally...).
Enjoy...

Peugeot-Assistance (1800-88-0747 or 016-274 0710)
The Twin-lions are ready at your service~
Peugeot-Assistance Hotline: 1800-88-0747 Or 016-274 0710
It offers 24-Hour breakdown assistance for Peugeot cars, regardless of models (yes, 206 Bestari is a Peugeot 206), and free towing within a distance of 150KM.
This is a great news for Peugeot owners in Malaysia as we can now see Nasim's effort to providing better after-sales services for Peugeot in Malaysia. The twin-lions below are captured during the launching of the 407 Face-Lift.
Hopefully we will see more improvements and good news on after-sales services and also spare parts availability and pricing~
One thing tough, I personally thinks strongly that they should rebadge/restore the badge to Peugeot.

206 1.4L Fuel Consumption Data
One of our member, yes, it's uncledee again, just shared his detailed fuel consumption "data" collected for his Chinese New Year holiday trip which covers over 1000KM.
For those who didn't know, uncledee is the one who contributed the very detailed "data" with chart/table of fuel consumption on the previous Fuel Consumption Survey post.
These are "actual" average figures which cover all possible conditions such as, hi-ways, trunk-roads, state-roads, city-streets, slow and hi-speed driving. About 3/4 of the entire journey was within +-20% speed limits . The remaining 1/4 was either crawling below 50km/hr or high-speed 'chasing' above 150km/hr.
No of Occupants: 2 adults (including driver) + 1 teenager + approx 50kg of loads in boot
[total loads around 200kg excluding fuel weight]
Cold Tyre Pressure: 35psi
Tyre size: 185-65-R14 [2% larger in circumference wrt stock tyre 175-65-R14]
Total Distance: 1108km [trip-meter reading] Kuala Lumpur-Kuala Lipis-GuaMusang-Jeli-Machang-Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan - Kuala Lumpur-Putrajaya + spinning around those towns.
Fuel used:
By first filling the tank to the brim [the first top-up was not part of the consumption - only odometer reading was taken, trip-meter was set to 0].
During and at the end of the trip the tank was refilled to the brim again. The total amount of the 'top up' fuel to the brim= RM145.86 [81.03litre] is the actual fuel consumed for the entire journey.
Fuel Consumption Results:
7.31l/100km, or
13.67km/litre, or
13.16cent/km @ RM1.80/litre
The tyre circumference on the car is 2% larger than the stock tyre size, hence the EXACT consumption should be adjusted accordingly; i.e
7.17litre/100km [a little bit above 7litre/100km]
13.94km/litre [almost 14km/litre]
12.90cent/km [slightly below 13cent/km]
Thanks to uncledee for the "data".

Peugeot TT Session @ Old Town White Coffee (31st January 2009)
On Saturday Night (31st January 2009), we attended a "TT" (Teh Tarik) or "Tea Session" with fellow Peugeot members (lion owners) organized by chongpt (407).
Most of the members were 407 owners, but the "star" of the day was what they called the "monster", which is the Peugeot 308 GT. It's still a very young lion, a cub which is less than or around 2 weeks old, but it's not something to mess with. Hehe
It was also one of the "biggest" TT we have ever attended so far, there were a lot of members who attended this "TT", that we need to keep "extend" the tables.
Even there's a good range of Peugeot cars, 405, 406, 407, 206 5 Door (CBU & CKD (Auto & Manual)), 206 3 Door, 206cc, 206GTi (Missing), 308GT
I guess we are lack of 307 members only for now, and the future I think will be covered with 308 VTi(s) and THP(s), hehehe.
What's with the 206GTi missing? Well, he got "special invitation" to enjoy the luxury ride in the "monster", the Peugeot 308. In other words, car pool, =P
The feeling? "The ride of your life" =P
Below are some shots takens during the TT event; please do forgive the poor quality amatuer shots, the lightng was really bad (pretty dark) and in order to keep the ISO low, I have to revert to very slow shutter speed and I have no tripod, just utilizing whatever I can find to keep the camera steady.
P/S: For the blur pictures, it's due to slow shutter speed to capture the lightings, thus sacrificing movements.

Nasim-Peugeot launches the Peuget 308 (CKD)
On 29th January 2009, Peugeot Club Malaysia was invited for the Peugeot 308 (CKD - locally assembled) launching ceremony. We're really honored to be invited for the launching event.
The prices announced for the models are:
Peugeot 308 1.6L VTi - RM96, 500 (OTR)
Peugeot 308 1.6L THP (Turbo) - RM111,000 (OTR)
The Peugeot 308 is a C-Segment category car. To put in simple, the example of cars under C-Segment categories are: Toyota Altis, Honda Civic, Mazda3, Citroen C4, Renault Megane, Ford Focus, VW Golf, etc.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compact_car
Just basing alone on it's competitors in C-Segment range above, personally, I think Nasim-Peugeot has really priced the car very well. It's cheaper than most of the C-Segment car, and based on it's specs and features, it could just be the best in it's class.
Simple Example:
Peugeot 308 1.6L VTi - RM96,500
Toyota Altis 1.6L - around RM103K (around RM6K difference)
Mazda3 1.6L - around RM103K (around RM6K difference)
When the prices of the models was announced, it was definitely a shocking for many who were not aware about the "estimated" pricing and especially to some car manufacturer. I personally believe this is a good move to bring up the automotive industry to a higher standard. The next car to be launch by other car manufacturer would need to think "many" times before pricing their cars and also they have to provide a competitive specs and features at a competitive price.
This I believe (personally), would actually benefit everyone, even those who are not interested in the car itself.
Here's some key features on the VTi alone:
4 Air Bags
5 STAR EURO-NCAP Safety Rating
Automatic Headlights
Automatic Wipers
Daytime Running Lights
Air conditioned glove box
Cruise Control With Speed Limiter
The additional features available for the THP (Turbo):
Electronic Stability Control (ESP)
Traction Control (ASR)
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)
Automatic Air Conditioning Dual Zone (separate for driver and front passenger) with active carbon/pollen filter
Auto dimming rear view mirror
Electric Folding Side Mirrors
Rear Centre Armrest with Storage Compartment and 2 cup holder recesses
Fragrance Diffusers
Some of the features may not seem important or needed by everyone, but it's just a "Nice To Have" features; As it's provided and at same or cheaper price, it can soon become a standard as demands grows. It is not a necessity, but it's "nice to have" and will bring up the standard, quality and luxury of the car.
