On 29th January 2009, Peugeot Club Malaysia was invited for the Peugeot 308 (CKD - locally assembled) launching ceremony. We're really honored to be invited for the launching event.
The prices announced for the models are:
Peugeot 308 1.6L VTi - RM96, 500 (OTR)
Peugeot 308 1.6L THP (Turbo) - RM111,000 (OTR)
The Peugeot 308 is a C-Segment category car. To put in simple, the example of cars under C-Segment categories are: Toyota Altis, Honda Civic, Mazda3, Citroen C4, Renault Megane, Ford Focus, VW Golf, etc.

Just basing alone on it's competitors in C-Segment range above, personally, I think Nasim-Peugeot has really priced the car very well. It's cheaper than most of the C-Segment car, and based on it's specs and features, it could just be the best in it's class.
Simple Example:
Peugeot 308 1.6L VTi - RM96,500
Toyota Altis 1.6L - around RM103K (around RM6K difference)
Mazda3 1.6L - around RM103K (around RM6K difference)
When the prices of the models was announced, it was definitely a shocking for many who were not aware about the "estimated" pricing and especially to some car manufacturer. I personally believe this is a good move to bring up the automotive industry to a higher standard. The next car to be launch by other car manufacturer would need to think "many" times before pricing their cars and also they have to provide a competitive specs and features at a competitive price.
This I believe (personally), would actually benefit everyone, even those who are not interested in the car itself.
Here's some key features on the VTi alone:
4 Air Bags
5 STAR EURO-NCAP Safety Rating
Automatic Headlights
Automatic Wipers
Daytime Running Lights
Air conditioned glove box
Cruise Control With Speed Limiter
The additional features available for the THP (Turbo):
Electronic Stability Control (ESP)
Traction Control (ASR)
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)
Automatic Air Conditioning Dual Zone (separate for driver and front passenger) with active carbon/pollen filter
Auto dimming rear view mirror
Electric Folding Side Mirrors
Rear Centre Armrest with Storage Compartment and 2 cup holder recesses
Fragrance Diffusers
Some of the features may not seem important or needed by everyone, but it's just a "Nice To Have" features; As it's provided and at same or cheaper price, it can soon become a standard as demands grows. It is not a necessity, but it's "nice to have" and will bring up the standard, quality and luxury of the car.
